New Video Art – Wakarisasu Ka?

Last week I mentioned how some of my 2008 “Western Zen” series was being displayed at the Arizona Opera, and I suppose the experience of printing, framing and displaying the work got me thinking about my love of Japanese culture.  As a fun video experiment I filmed a bit of Noh masks at the Phoenix Art Museum, then spent an hour at the Japanese Friendship Garden (both a stone’s throw from the AZ Opera).  After some quick edits, the final touch was a blend of about 10 source music pieces (ranging from traditional to a bit of the Akira soundtrack) into something fitting the video.  The title of the piece, “Wakarisasu Ka?”, means “Do You Understand?”

I have been thinking a LOT about video lately.  So far the majority of my video output has been music videos of my Artificial Human project, but expect to see a lot more “video art” pieces as well as art tutorials.

All footage shot on my brand new Fuji X-T1- more on that guy in a future post!  If you enjoy any of this work I encourage you to like it and share it!  For more photoworks goodness peruse my Etsy shop, follow on tumblr and twitter and instagram, and rummage around on my full site.
