Photographic Composition Tools: Scale

Skopje Day 7-94

One of the most underused elements of a photograph’s composition is the relative scale between things.  Making objects appear bigger or smaller, nearer or further, is a way of conveying an idea as much as having a portrait subject smile or frown or dress stylized.  DSCF0086-3These images were shot in Macedonia- Skopje and Gostivar, respectively.  I’d done plenty of panos of the Archaeology Museum above, but the only one to break away from the “postcard aesthetic” was this one featuring a rare Skopje police car in front.
